About Hale Mahina Molokai

Hale Mahina Molokai

House of the Moon

Hale Mahina Molokai is our spacious two-bedroom, two-bathroom condominium unit located at Ke Nani Kai, a peaceful residential resort community in Maunaloa, Molokai.

Our beautiful unit boasts expansive, unobstructed views of the three-mile long Papohaku Beach and the Pacific Ocean! It is furnished with all of the comforts of home and most everything you need to relax, reconnect, and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you.  Our unit is NON-SMOKING or VAPING inside the unit, or on either lanai areas.  There is a designated smoking area on the grounds.  Our home is not suitable for young children.

Ke Nani Kai is a beautiful, quiet, residential property at nearly 14 acres of lush foliage, large open lawn space, community pool and hot tub, tennis courts, two outdoor barbeque areas, and lovely walking areas to the beaches.

You will love your stay at Hale Mahina Molokai!

About Molokai

Molokai is unlike any island you have ever experienced.  It is located north of Maui and southeast of Oahu. It is home to the tallest seacliffs on Earth, and the largest shallow-water reef system in the United States.

Most travelers arrive via a short flight from either Maui or Oahu on the only airline to currently fly to the island, Mokulele Airlines.

Molokai’s beauty is found in its natural, undeveloped form.

If you are looking for an action-packed vacation with a wild night-life, high-rise hotels, luau shows, fire dancers, parasailing, dinner cruises, or tour busses to hot spots, Molokai is not for you.

This island has no stop-lights, no “big-box” stores and not one ABC Store or Whaler’s General Store. The organized activities are limited to a cultural tour to the Halawa Valley Falls, Molokai Plumeria Farm, fishing, scuba diving/snorkeling, paddleboard rentals, all through locally-owned companies found on-island. You may explore the many unspoiled beaches, Kamakou Preserve, Church Row, Pala’au State Park, which contains the Kalaupapa Lookout and the sacred site of Kaule O Nanahoa, explore the main town of Kaunakakai and multiple historical fishponds, at your own leisure.

Molokai has four locally-owned smaller markets; Kualapuu Market, C. Pascua Store, Maunaloa General Store, and a small store located on the property adjacent to Ke Nani Kai, where our condo is located, as well as two locally-owned larger grocery stores in Kaunakakai – Friendly Market Center and Misaki’s.

There are a few places to dine, other than the condo.  The town of Kaunakakai offers Kanemitsu’s Bakery and Coffee Shop (an 80-year old family business known for its “hot bread,” which is not to be missed), Molokai Pizza Cafe, Molokai Burger, Kamoi Snack-n-Go, Paddlers Restaurant and Bar, Mana’e Goods and Grindz, and Ono Fish and Shrimp Food Truck. You will also find oceanside dining at Hiro’s Ohana Grill, located on the property of Hotel Molokai.  Kualapuu offers the Kualapuu Cookhouse. In between the airport and our condo, you will drive by Molokai Livestock Cooperative on the Mauna Loa Highway in Ho’olehua where you can stop and purchase grass-fed beef in many cuts, as well as pork and axis deer.

The town of Kaunakakai hosts Molokai Art from the Heart, a small store where you will find all types of art and souvenirs made by local artists. Coffees of Hawaii, Purdy’s Macadamia Nut Farm, and Big Kite Wind Factory (which has been in business for more than 40 years and produces locally made kites and wind-socks, as well as other trinkets in their Maunaloa location) all offer goodies and treats to take home as special mementos of your trip.

Unit Amenities

At nearly 1,000 square feet of interior space, you will feel very comfortable at Hale Mahina Molokai, your home away from home.  Our unit has two private bedrooms; the master is furnished with a new king bed and topper, new Tommy Bahama bedding and pillows, and boasts a great view from the sliding door that opens onto the expansive lanai.  There is a dresser and closet for your clothing, and the television can be positioned to be viewed from bed.  Off the master bedroom is the private master bathroom with the shower/tub and toilet being separated by a door from the sink area.

The second private bedroom is furnished with a new queen bed, new Tommy Bahama bedding and pillows, a large dresser and has a small lanai surrounded by foliage for privacy.  The closet also contains a small, twin blow-up mattress. Both bedrooms contain luggage racks for a suitcase, as well as ceiling fans for comfort.  The second bathroom is across from the guest bedroom.  Both bathrooms are supplied with convenient extras such as Neutrogena Rainbath body wash and Aveeno body lotion, as well as the initial supply of toilet paper, hand soap, q-tips, cotton balls, and make-up wipes.  Our unit also has a blow dryer and a magnified make-up mirror.

The full kitchen is well-equipped with most all of the items found in your kitchen at home, with maybe some extras, such as a coffee grinder, toaster, water purifying pitcher, new cookware and silverware, coffee pot, blender, and more!  There is also a limited, initial supply of basic spices and seasonings, as well as ground coffee.

The dining room with cooling ceiling fan has comfortable seating for four, as does the lanai, with a new, bar-height dining table and cushions that allows the perfect view while dining.

The living room has a comfortable sofa, loveseat and chairs with three reclining features.  The beach, ocean, and property grounds are all easily viewable right from the comfort of the living room.  The television is also viewable from the living room, dining room, and kitchen.

Our unit has a healthy array of cable channels as well as WiFi.

The lanai has two comfortable loungers with cushions to relax in the warm Molokai sun, as well as a bar-height dining set which allows you to see over the lanai railing as you dine and enjoy the view.

The lanai is the perfect area to spend the evening, gazing up at the bright stars and moon with the sound of the ocean in the distance.

About Us

Our names are James and Lisa Luna and we are from California.  We have three children and are both professionals.  We have traveled throughout the Hawaiian islands for the last 30 years but took our first trip to Molokai in May 2021 for our 25th anniversary.  We fell in love with this beautiful place called the Friendly Isle.  We were fortunate to be able to purchase a unit that we plan to use solely as our retirement home once we get to that point.

In the meantime, we have furnished our unit with what we believe are most all of the comforts of home in an effort to share this lovely place with others.
